Why Real Fruit Tastes Better

Why Real Fruit Tastes Better

One thing we pride ourselves on here at Jolly Llama is the fact that our sorbet cream pops are made with real fruit puree. We want you to taste nature’s candy, not some artificial flavors developed in a laboratory.

Is there really a difference?

Yes! There’s a huge difference. That’s like asking if the world is really round. Artificial flavors are simply chemical mixtures that imitate a natural flavor in some way. They come from anything that is inedible, and then is processed to create chemicals of flavorings.

Real or natural flavors, on the other hand, come directly from the fruit itself. You know the sensation you get when you bite into a freshly picked peach from your tree in the summertime? The sweet, natural juices quench your mouth and rejuvenates your taste buds. Do you think you get the same sensation if you were to drink some chemicals from a science beaker?

It’s all in the taste

Real fruit tastes healthy. What exactly does that mean? Well, real fruit is packed full of natural vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, and natural sugars that make it not only taste better, but make you feel better.

Powerful nutrients in real fruits

Vitamin C is just one of the many nutrients that most real fruits have. This key nutrient is important because it helps with the growth, development, and repair of all body tissues. It’s also responsible for strengthening the immune system, helping your wounds/cuts to heal, and making your bones, teeth, and gums strong and healthy. In addition, it helps protect against cardiovascular disease, eye disease, and even skin wrinkling. You definitely can’t get all that from artificial flavors.

Antioxidants are similar to Vitamin C and are found in real food. This means you can’t substitute a vitamin or pill to get the antioxidants your body needs. You need real food to get this key nutrient. Antioxidants help fight the free radical cells in your body and by preventing/repairing damage done by these free radicals. Free radicals attack have been linked to a plethora of health problems including:

  • Eye degeneration
  • Premature aging
  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Cognitive decline

YIKES! We don’t know about you, but we definitely want some antioxidants on our side helping to prevent those health problems.

Fiber helps reduce blood cholesterol levels, is great for digestion, and may even lower your risk of heart disease. Fiber also helps your bowels to function properly (nobody likes the feeling of constipation, right?). Foods rich in fiber (like apples, bananas, oranges, strawberries, mangoes, and raspberries) give us a feeling of fullness, without all the expected calories.

Folate, or folic acid, helps your body produce red blood cells (red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues, and removing carbon dioxide by taking it to the lungs for you to exhale. Pretty cool, right?) Women who are pregnant (or planning on getting pregnant) need lots of folate to minimize the risks to their baby’s development.

Potassium is an electrolyte that is vital to the healthy functioning of all of your body’s cells, tissues and organs. Diets high in potassium help you maintain healthy blood pressure. Fruit sources of potassium include Bananas, oranges, cantaloupe, honeydew, apricots, grapefruit, pomegranates, cherries, strawberries, mangoes, and blackberries.

Natural sugars aren’t exactly a nutrient, but they definitely help fruit taste great. They’re found in every fruit. (And it’s not like the white sugar you’ll find on the shelves at the supermarket.) Natural sugars are just that– naturally sweet. They are literally nature’s candy, and they won’t make you go into a sugar coma.

Nothing beats real fruit

You just can’t substitute “healthy,” which is why we use nothing but the best of ingredients in our cream pops. Not only do they taste better, but they will make you feel better, too. Try one of our nine flavors today!
